The concept for this project was to explore narrative in a non-linear format, exploring society's connection to social media and technology. Approaching this project I immediately made the decision that I wanted to further explore stop-motion animation. From there I decided to animate a poem as I find poetry a perfect example of non-linear narrative. Furthermore I found a poem that directly spoke to the relation between humans and machines. I animated the words of the poem into frames one by one and then interspersed images of social media and the real world as almost subliminal flashes. This juxtaposition and these flashes subtly calls into question our relationship with to the tactile and digital worlds we surround ourselves with.
For the subliminal flashes I used color shots of social media, and black and white shots of the world that exists around us while we are glued to our phones (examples of these shots shown below).
