Influenced by Italo Calvino's 6 Memos & the art and design of Vaughan Oliver (v23), I created this reinvention of the self-portrait as a mix tape. Since music and album artwork are a huge influence on me, the mix-CD is filled with songs that defined my semester (Fall 2015), and the piece reaches another level of self-portrait through the packaging. Each song had its own insert that had a description of why i chose that song. I used a combination of Typo American and Coronet Bold for the typography, for the visuals I used altered and obscured images of myself (which will be seen less obscured in the inner sleeves), and for the material I chose to make the case out of a thick vellum. I wanted the piece to have a very distinct look and feel and for it to have an almost transparent design alluding to the fact that music is a bit of a glimpse into who I am as a person.
