Deconstructing The Self | Thesis

For my thesis I chose to work theoretically and thematically with Derrida’s theory of deconstruction, using the tools of deconstruction to question and re-evaluate the binary opposition inherent in the two-brain theory (or the Left-Brain Right-Brain theory). For my medium I chose album art and vinyl records. Using the records and album sleeves as a visual metaphor for human kind, the goal was to entice people to question the things that they are told about themselves, calling attention the fact that humans are much more complex than the binary opposition of left and right. Below you will find my preliminary schematics drawn up to explain how my piece would hang in gallery. Through this setup I created an experience that sparked creative interaction.
